May 2020 | In conversation with Wendy Kok

In these unprecedented times, we have all had to quickly adjust to living life as best as possible under a lock-down scenario. This has meant that homes have been turned into offices, new routines have had to be created and we are now Zoom experts with virtual backgrounds, screen sharing, video recordings and looking presentable on camera when the video function is turned on.

Rewinding to February 2020, Women in Investments was eagerly working behind the scenes to bring Wendy Kok to an event in March 2020 through the kind introduction of the Wade Institute. However, the arrival of March 2020 heralded a new era of living in lockdown meant that we had to be creative. Thus, Wendy and I met via Zoom for the purpose of providing a preview of discussion points for when international borders re-open and she is able to travel here from Silicon Valley for an in-person event.

As food for thought, Wendy also recently lectured at Stanford and covered the following topics:

  • The US-China Trade War

  • IP theft and the Trade War

  • How to enter China for your business

  • 1.2 billion customers

  • Corporate structures, tax and compliance issues

  • China as an emerging innovation powerhouse in areas like healthcare

Wendy is a highly accomplished individual with previous roles including Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer at Sequoia Capital China, Head of Investment Management with Omidyar Network and Partner at Ernst & Young. Her resume speaks volumes about her commitment to excellence and is an example of someone who is the change that they want to see in the world.

She is a wealth of information and we look forward to introducing you to her when the opportunity presents itself.
